Affiliate Marketing: The Successful Blueprint

by Karima Holston

Who wouldn’t want to be a millionaire selling someone else’s product? You don’t have to worry about paying employees, maintaining a complicated website, or dealing with customer support. It’s inspiring when you hear success stories from the top internet marketers. Most aspiring millionaires have already heard of Shoemoney.com and the famous $130,000 Google Adsense check. What can be learned from the success of the people at the top? Nobody is going to give away all of their secrets, but if you watch closely, you are able to get a good idea of how to become a successful affiliate marketer.

Behind every success story is a tale of struggle and failure. It’s not pretty at all. When you decide that you are going to sell someone else’s product, you often gravitate to the products that you feel will convert well. It’s a great feeling to receive a sale, but it’s hugely disappointing when you sink all your work and time into an affiliate program only to find out that your efforts were in vain. You ask yourself whether it was the product or your marketing efforts that were ineffective. Many successful marketers have failed at one point in time, but there is a lesson to be learned from the failure.

Earning money from affiliate programs isn’t as simple as advertising your url on search engines. You have to employ several methods of converting visitors into sales. There are quite a few methods that will increase your chances of success in affiliate marketing. Here are a couple:

1. Contests: In order to create a buzz about your product, offer something for free. You might have to spend a little money for the prizes but it would be worth it. Giveaway anything related to your product. If you’re promoting web hosting programs, give away a free domain name. The best part about contests are that you’re able to collect contact information from people who you know are already interested in website services. You could later e-mail your contacts about other upcoming contests or promotions you will have in the future.

2. Niche Promotion: If you’re going to promote an affiliate program, find one that has a small but profitable niche. If you’re targeting people who want cookie recipes, why not take it a step further? There is a lot of competition for cookie recipes, but you’ll get more targeted visitors and sales if you find an affiliate program targeting people looking for “gluten free chocolate chip cookie recipes”. You have to zero in on a specific market if you want to make sales with less competition.

Successful affiliate marketers will share some tips with you but you have to be prepared to learn through trial and error what will work for you. You still have the option of following marketers that you want to emulate. Many of them have blogs and will give you tips however, you will have to put all of your energy into perfecting your own method. Use the marketer’s advice as a guide, and be prepared for a lot of work.
